Short Term Advocacy

Home

This project offers crisis advocacy which is a one to one ongoing partnership between
a volunteer and a person who is not in a strong position to exercise or defend his or
her rights, or who is at risk of being mistreated or excluded. The involvement tends
to be one off, centred on a particular task or specific situation in which a person needs
the support of an advocate. The difficulties that we usually help people with are usually

Care in the Community type of issues or dealings with Health or Social Services.

Advocates can help people to:

Make everyday decisions
Make life-changing decisions
Have choice over services
Have control over services.

Advocates can help people to:

Write letters
Make phone calls
Plan what to say
Talk to professionals
Get through meetings
Find information
Make complaints
